Pre Church Era
The influx of Syrian Christians of Kerala into the island of Bahrain started in the early forties.
The main place for worship was the American mission Church.
The desire to have an independent congregation lead the Syrian Christians to form a

The co-operation and help rendered by the Anglican Church in the formative years of our parish was significant.
In fact, the St. Christopher church and it's hall was always avaiable for our services and for special functions.
The establishment of the Orthodox Parish in Bahrain with the arrival of its First Vicar ,Fr George Kurien, was a milestone in the history of orthodox and other churches in the Gulf. Our parish in Bahrain became the Mother church in the Gulf region.
On 2nd August 1968, during the vicarship of Fr K K Punnoose (HG Stephonos Mar Theodosius), the general body decided to start constructing a Church Building with an estimated cost of BD 40,000/.

labourer. The Church building was dedicated in the name of St. Mary on 14th Feb 1969 by HB Thomas Mar Themothios.
New Church
As the strength of the members grew from 200 to 1000, a bigger church was needed.
Our church enjoyed the benevolence and patronage of the Late HH Sh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, Amir of Bahrain since its earlier days.
We continue to enjoy the magnanimity and support of His Majesty, Sheikh Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain.
His Majesty, kindly and whole heartedly, donated the land adjacent the church for the construction of a new church premises.

The stone was earlier blessed by the late Baselious Marthoma Mathews II when HH was in Bahrain as the chief celebrant of the Holy Week.
On the 9th/10th of October 2003, the new church was dedicated to God Almighty in the name of St Mary, St Thomas and St Gregorios by the 89th successor of the throne of St Thomas, HG Stephanos Mar Theodosius and by Diocesan Metropolitan HG Geevarghese Mar Coorilos.
